Getting my European health insurance card
You should apply for the European health insurance card about 2 weeks before your departure. It is also useful for holidays in the European Union, or for students going on the Erasmus programme.
It is valid in the following countries:
Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France (metropolitan, Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Reunion island), Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malta, Norway, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal (including Madeira and Azores), Romania, Spain (including Balearic and Canary Islands), Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, United Kingdom (England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Gibraltar).
The card is valid for one year, and each person must have his/her own (you cannot use your parent’s). You apply online, no document required, you just need your social security number.
Go the the ameli.fr website and apply online. You can also do it over the phone on 36 46 or by visiting your health insurance company information desk. We offer many solutions for trips within Europe, holidays of less than 90 days, trips of more than 90 days or students going through the Erasmus programme or for an internship.
